Is Your Vehicle’s Battery Still Good?
There are many factors that may affect the performance of your vehicle’s battery aside from age. The weather can have a huge impact on the wear of the battery. It is good to run a performance test of the battery periodically.
You will need a voltmeter to measure the charging state of the battery. Use safety goggles and rubber gloves to avoid contact with battery acid. Ensure that all the vehicle lights and the ignition are shut off. Match the positive test lead to the battery’s positive terminal. Repeat the same with the negative test lead. The battery may need replacement or a charge if the reading falls below 75 percent or 12.2 voltage. Carefully release the negative terminal first. Clean off the battery terminals with a safe solution when finished.
